Bread Upma

Bread Upma - a variety from upma family.

It's quick, it's delicious and it's healthy too..!

Ingredients
  • Bread / Pav - 6 slices (prefer brown bread)
  • Onion - 1 nos (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 2 nos (finely chopped)
  • Green chilies - 2 nos (slit cut)
  • Garlic - 4/5 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafetida (Hing powder) - 1/4th tsp
  • Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1/2 lemon
  • Water - 1/2 Cup
  • Salt
  • Sev and Coriander for garnishing
Cooking Instructions
  1. Take bread slices and cut into small squares using a knife. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add butter to it. Once butter is melted, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilies and stir fry for 15-20 secs on a medium flame.
  3. Add onion, and saute until it gets translucent. (You can also add finely chopped Capsicum and carrots here, just make sure to cook them well)
  4. Add chopped tomatoes with all seasonings - turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  5. Cook it till tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  6. Add water and lemon juice, and cook it till water is reduced.
  7. Add the bread pieces here, and gently mix and coat all the pieces well. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.

Your tasty bread upma is ready to eat. Serve it with sev and enjoy.
