Jhal muri is a popular street food that is very popular in West Bengal, Orissa, and Bangladesh. Jhal muri is a spicy puffed rice snack that is loved by everyone. Bhel Puri & Churmuri are 2 other popular variations of Jhalmuri.
Ingredients
- 2 cups puffed rice
- 1/4 cup onion
- 3 tbsp. tomato
- 2 tbsp. cucumber
- 1/2 cup boiled potato cubed
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
- 1 no green chili
- 1 tbsp. fresh coconut
- 1/2 row mangoes
- 3 tbsp. sev mix
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp mustard oil
- Spice powders
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp chat masala powder
- 1/4 tsp black salt
Cooking Instructions
- Heat a Kadai and keep flame to a low or medium-low.
- Add 2 cups of puffed rice.
- Stirring often roasts till they become crisp and crunchy.
- Stir often and roast for 2 to 3 minutes or more if required.
- Check a few puffed rice and they should be crunchy and not soft or chewy.
- Switch off the flame and keep the pan down.
Making Jhal Muri
- Add all the ingredients one by one to a mixing bowl.
- Squeeze lemon juice and finally top with coriander leaves and mix well.
- Adjust as per taste and serve immediately.
Notes
- I did not add our regular salt just added black and it was enough. If you want, you can add it.
- You can replace mustard oil with normal cooking oil but the authentic taste comes only when mustard oil is used.
